The Knightly Ruby was founded in November 2024 by Robin Bailey at the University of Oregon. Initially, we were a child publication of the long-running The Student Insurgent under the guise of putting radical news back on the Insurgent’s plate, but creative differences led the Ruby to our newfound (and greatly enjoyed) independence.
In the Ruby’s first year, we published three print editions: fall, winter and spring. We also found our groove on social media, posting photo stories between print dates.
The Ruby’s second year was spent in collaboration with A People’s Guide to the University of Oregon, a radical history project wherein Ruby staff continue to contribute design, layout and editorial duties. We’ve also started exploring video as a more regular medium for storytelling, inspired by those in Eugene before us who produced Cascadia Alive!. Late this year, our website finally went live… as you live and breathe to see it.
